About Us

Elysium Events, a Portland based sustainable event management and consulting firm, is a company with a conscience. As communities continue to place a higher value on day-to-day environmental and social justice practices, we offer guidance on how to bring special events up to sustainable standards.

 

Elysium Events works with companies, organizations, event planners and producers to find solutions that minimize the environmental footprint imposed by event and project based activities.  With our focus on working towards zero waste, our clients have reached landfill diversion rates of 65-98%.

Portland Farmers Market: Current Project

Zero waste event consultant providing guidance and materials to assist in the Market's goals to reduce the amount of waste generated in 2010 and beyond.  

 

Junk to Funk Recycled Fashion Show Contest: 2006-2009

J2F is an annual "caused based event production". Created and produced by Elysium Events, it is an entertainment or experience based event production that encourages positive behavioral change that is related to social and environmental concerns with waste. We do it in a most unique way: a runway showcasing wearable art and couture fashion based on the creative use of "trash" in an eclectic and often humorous event production.

Race for the Cure: 2007-2009

Sustainability Management for all waste reduction and resource recovery efforts, resulting in a 77% landfill diversion rate.  With participation of nearly 50,000 individuals, this event maintains a reputation of being one of the most successful public event in the Portland area for successfully diverting event waste.

 

Eugene US Track & Field Trials for World Championships: 2009

Sustainability Management for continuing all waste reduction and resource recovery efforts based on successes of the 08 Olympic Track and Field Trials.  Implemented waste reduction strategies, managed nearly 100 volunteers over the four day event and coordinated post event donations resulting in a 73% recovery rate.    

 

Scrap 10th Anniversary and Grand Re-Opening Gala: 2009

Event Planner for Portland's favorite school and art supply re-use center. A celebration of entertainment, local collaborators and junk art of course.

 

Garten Services: 2009

Zero waste event consultant providing a seminar and consulting services to get company up to speed on processes and best practices for successful implementation of working towards zero waste for outdoor events for their preparation in servicing the Marion County Fair and Oregon State Fair.

 

Rechargeable Battery Recycling Improvement Project: 2008-2009

Project Coordinator for activities with members represented from the Recycling Advocates, Metro, DEQ and Rechargeable Battery Recycling Company. Project goals were to increase the ways and means in which to inform citizens about the issues and opportunities regarding the disposal and recycling of rechargeable batteries through the retail based, rechargeable battery recycling programs run by the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation.
 

Bite of Oregon: 2007-2008

Sustainability Management for the waste reduction and resource recovery efforts for one of Portland's largest outdoor events hosting over 40,000 people in three days. By successfully recruiting and managing 100 green team volunteers and in developing a robust recycling and composting program, the landfill diversion rate rose from 22% to 65% in just two years resulting in a cost savings of $930. The Bite of Oregon is used as a case study with the City of Portland on how a successful event composting program is possible.

Eugene '08 Olympic Track and Field Trials: 2008

On Site Sustainability Management, managing hundreds of volunteers over a 2 week period, in efforts to divert materials from landfill in a recycling and composting program. Final landfill diversion rate was 73% for an estimated attendance of 20,000 people per day. The Eugene 08 event received Lane County's "Trashbuster Award" and theThe International Olympic Committee's Award for Sport and the Environment for it's sustainability initiatives. Cost savings for this event was over $8000.00 for it's resource recovery efforts.

Seattle's Green Fest: 2008

Assistant Greening Manager with Seven Star Events at one of the nation's largest sustainable living festivals. Through extensive recycling and composting efforts and hundreds of volunteers, the Seattle Green Fest boasted a 97% landfill diversion rate.

Art Institute of Portland: 2008

Co-Instructor and producer for college "Fashion Show Event Production Class" in which students assist in the production of the school's annual student and faculty fashion show.

 

The Performance Group: 2008

Provided a green meeting assessment for a 3 day business sales conference. Produced a report on findings of onsite evaluations and recommendations for improving internal systems and policies for green meetings.

Oregon Natural Step Network: 2007
"A Common Path for Sustainability" Business Conference

Assisted in development and managed full day sustainable b2b conference for 300 community business leaders featuring local, regional, national and international speakers and workshop presenters.

10th Anniversary Dinner Celebration

Coordinated anniversary dinner celebration for 300 community business leaders

Urban Forest Project: 2007

Event Coordination and Project Management with the Portland chapter of American Institute of Graphic Artists to bring an Earth Day based event around sustainable design solutions. Worked with local bag designer, Queen Bee, to transform 150 vinyl banners into one of a kind messenger bags for the public. Proceeds of bag sales benefit Friends of Trees.
